These darling binders with quilted covers can be turned into fabulous scrapbooks to coordinate with your decor. The plastic pockets on the scrapbook covers are held in place with grommets and are fun to display a prized photo. Machine embroidery lines each of the patchwork pieces of the quilted covers and scrapbook letters embellish the covers with an appropriate title for what's tucked inside.

Supplies:
3 Ring Binder
'Life' Letter Tiles by The Paper Studio
'Friends' Letter Tiles by The Paper Studio
Janome Memory Craft 6500 Sewing Machine
Iron
Pressing Board
Scissors
Tailor's Chalk
Contrasting Thread
4 Grommets (3/8 inch)
Grommet Setter
Hammer
Clear Vinyl (Tablecloth Weight)
1/4" Decorative Ribbon (24 Inches long)

Lining Fabric:
(Measure the size of the binder when laying open, plus 1-inch around the edges.)

Cover Fabric:
(Sew assorted squares and rectangles together to form a patchwork piece that measures the same as the lining.)

Polyester Quilt Batting:
(Same measurement as the lining fabric)

Steps:
1. Lay the open binder on top of the lining fabric, and mark 1/4 inch from the edge of the binder, on all four sides. Draw a second line and cut 1-inch from the edge of the binder, all the way around the binder.

2. Use the lining fabric as a pattern to cut out the cover from the prepared patchwork fabric. After cutting out the cover from the patchwork fabric, fold the lining fabric in half and cut it along the fold (for the spine). Fold those edges under 1/4 inch and then 1-inch and press with the iron. Sew the edge down with a straight stitch to create a 1-inch hem.

3. Cut batting the same size as the patchwork fabric.

4. Lay the patchwork fabric over the batting (right side up), matching up the edges. Sew around all four sides with a large zigzag stitch.

5. Sew decorative stitching along the edges of each square of the patchwork with contrasting thread. Use a variety of decorative stitches to add to the style of the design.

6. Cut a piece of clear vinyl the same size as the center block on the front of the patchwork cover. Attach the vinyl over the center block with grommets in the corners.

7. Hand stitch plastic letters to the front cover for a book title.

8. Cut ribbon in half. Baste the ends of the ribbons to the center of both ends of the cover, with the ribbons laying toward the center of the cover.

9. Pin the two hemmed lining pieces to the fabric cover, right sides facing. (There will be a gap in the middle for the spine of the binder.)

10. Lay the binder on top of the pinned fabric and mark the fabric 1/4-inch from the edge, on all four sides. Lay the binder aside.

11. Sew a straight stitch on the marked line, on all four sides. Trim the seam.

12. Turn the cover right side out.

13. Turn the raw edges under at the top and bottom of the cover where the spine will be placed. Press the raw edges with an iron and slip stitch the edges to the batting, or hold in place with double-sided tape.

14. Fold the finished cover backward in the middle. Fold the binder backward and gently slip the binder into the pockets of the fabric cover, until it is completely inserted.

15. Fold the binder back to the normal position, easing the corners into place.

16. Place scrapbook pages inside binder and tie the ribbons into a bow at the side of the binder.

17. Insert a favorite photo inside the plastic pocket on the front cover.
