Supplies:
Wax-covered Paper Milk Carton
Taper Candle (as tall as the carton)
Wax
Broken Crayons or Dye Chips
Pan with 1 inch of water
Coffee Can
Ice cubes
Scissors
Cookie Sheet
Foil

Pattie’s Pointer: This is a terrific idea to do for a Holiday gift basket. Just add a pretty dish to display the candle, a tree ornament, baked goodies, and wrap it in cellophane with a big fancy bow!

Steps:
1. Cut off the top and wash and dry the inside of the milk carton. Set the carton on a cookie sheet covered with foil for a fast cleanup.
2. Break wax chunks and fill up the milk carton to estimate how much you will need to melt.
3. Make a double boiler by putting 1-inch of water in a pan, and placing a clean coffee can in the pan on a burner.
4. Set the heat to low and place the wax in the coffee can.
5. Melt the wax slowly. Add dye chips or broken crayons to color the wax if you desire a colored candle. (You may use a thermometer and heat to 180 degrees.)
6. Pour melted wax into the milk carton, to cover the bottom. Quickly place the taper candle into the wax to hold it in the center of the carton. Let the wax harden. (This will give the candle a solid base.)
7. Fill the carton with ice cubes.
8. Pour the melted wax on top of the ice.
9. Set aside to cool completely.
10. Pour out the water and tear away the carton.
11. Let the candle completely dry before burning.

Notice: This is a project not intended for children. Never leave candles unattended.
